The broom has always belonged to the hearth… a humble tool for tending the home that carries a little folklore within its bristles. Beyond its practical purpose, within various folk and magical traditions the besom became associated with clearing away unwanted or stagnant energy, tending sacred space, protecting the home, and making way for something new.
During Founders Weekend, stop by the porch at The Enchanted Altar, at 6 Park Place in Lee, and create your own decorative broom to bring a little hearthside magic home. Choose from an assortment of ribbons and charms to adorn your broom with color, symbolism, and personal intention... or bring a favorite ribbon, charm, bell, trinket, or keepsake of your own to weave into your creation.
This is a relaxed Drop-In Make & Take, so no registration or scheduled start time is required.
Join us anytime between 11 am and 3 pm on Saturday, September 19th and decorate your broom on the porch at your own pace.
Prefer to create at home? You are also welcome to select your broom and embellishments and take everything with you to finish later.
Hang your finished broom beside the door, near the hearth, upon an altar, or among your autumn decorations as a symbol of tending the spaces that hold us… sweeping away what has grown stale and making room for a little more magic. It can be folk art, autumn décor, a spiritual object, or all three.
